What we do on a day off

It's a little different every week, but this week we made a quick stop in Rochester, then went to the east side of Rochester to visit Quarry Hill. After visiting the snakes, turtles, owl, and fish (among other things) we had a picnic outside and then walked around the pond.

After Quarry Hill we went to pick up "dirt" (compost from the county). I had good intentions of getting a picture of Conrad playing on the dirt pile, but got busy shoveling and forgot to do it! He was very helpful, with his own little shovel and sand bucket. When the bucket was full, I would lift him up and he would dump it in the trailer. It didn't take long to fill the trailer with such good help.

And here we are back on the WINDY prarie, being silly. It's my bandana he's wearing, makes him look a little girly!

this and that

A hodgepodge of pictures (I recently cleared off my camera)

Conrad went to the dentist for the first time and they sent home some fun stuff...

Conrad in another type of gloves - this is his spring gardening garb

And here is what has been keeping Tim busy. He's converting the van from gas engine to a diesel engine. A few wires to sort out....

And here's Conrad with his sweet Norwegian friend, Clara. She turned 94 this month and still lives in her own home.

Conrad's latest...

Last night I heard a new one from Conrad. He was playing with his train set, then suddenly stopped and picked up the play cell phone. This is what he says (almost word for word) "Park ranger, there is a grizzly bear on the train tracks. Can you come scare him away? Thank you." Then he gets back down on the floor and continues playing trains. Where does this stuff come from???

why I'm late to work

Thankfully I really wasn't (not that anyone would likely care in my current workplace), but we did make an unplanned stop on the way to work this morning. Just a couple miles from home, we saw an angus calf curled up on the shoulder of the road. It was just past 6am so we were hesitant to knock on our neighbors door, but since we don't have their phone number it was the only way to let them know there was an escapee. Luckily he was already awake and in the kitchen.
