Happy Birthday Norrie!

Rise and shine birthday girl!

The kids went to daycare on Tuesday, so the birthday celebrations didn't start until that night. Here's the cake...

who you looking at?

" I'm just sitting here, not doing anything mom. Really. And no, that wasn't something off the floor I just put in my mouth."

Norrie likes clothes. She really, really, really likes clothes. Especially when it's pulling them out of boxes, bags, or in this case, out of Conrad's totes. He's a good sport about it, as long as I promise to pick them up when she's done.

Norrie's isn't walking on her own yet, but is able to stand with out holding on to support (and is walking with support) Here she's inspecting daddy's wood/fire-stoking gloves.

Conrad Pictures

Typical of MN spring weather, we've had quite a variation of temperatures. One evening in the last couple weeks was so warm outside (relative to what we would expect at this time of year), that the inside of the yurt got a touch warm. Conrad, being tired and sensitive claimed it was just too hot to sleep. I sent him outside to the deck once or twice to "cool off" but as soon as he would get sleepy again he would fight off falling asleep by going outside to cool off. Changing tactics, I told him no more going outside - if he was too warm he would just have to sleep on the floor. I didn't really expect him to, but being a four year old he liked the idea of having the choice, and doing something different, so down to the floor he went. I thought it would last five minutes and he would be back up in his bed (it really wasn't THAT warm inside!) Just minutes later, this is how I found him.

Then, just a few days later another snowy front moved in and here's a picture of our morning commute. We try to balance how often we clear the driveway since it uses so much fuel in the tractor, and often times we don't want to mess with it in the mornings so we prefer to just park near the road and hike out. It's good exercise and a great wake-me-up!

We've hit the transition period with Conrad. You know, he's old enough to actually be helpful when it's time to wash dishes or fold laundry, but also old enough to know he's (gasp!) being helpful. So instead of jumping up and down and asking to wash dishes with me, or fold diapers and match socks, now he comes up with any excuse to get out of it. My tummy hurts, I'm too hot, I'm too tired, I'm too cold, I'm too full. Sometimes he's quite honest and just says "I don't want to!" Too bad big boy - you're part of the family so hop to it! And here's a picture of him doing a stellar job folding our clothe napkins.

building blocks - Norrie style

What if I put this here, and then that there?

And now pick it up?
And repeat, and repeat. (I didn't take pictures, instead I started recording - it's amazing to watch a baby "think") She had started with just the kleenex box which I had given her stuffed with baby socks and booties. That had worked well entertaining her in the past, pulling everything out and then stuffing it back in. Apparently that was getting old though because she started gathering a few other things and started this new game.
.
The next night she pulled out several shoes and boots.

but discovered those don't stack so well! And yes, she has real building blocks - but sometimes toys aren't as interesting as anything else we can get our hands on.

"Clara's Doughnuts"

I'm now an official recipe holder of "Clara's Doughnuts". Norrie and I
have been spending more time with Clara recently. She is my mom's neighbor so I grew up living next door to her. I never really got to know her though in all those years. Now that I'm trying to stop in and visit at least once a week I've learned so much - about her and from her.
I took a couple pictures of the process, not so much to remember how to make the donuts, but to remember Clara.

Norrie was part of the donut crew - but safely tucked behind me in the carrier. (and Conrad was in morning preschool)
