May - a month of gardening

Little else happened in May.  Nearly every morning it was playing and gardening outside, every afternoon drop off kids at daycare and work.  Then repeat.  These pictures were actually taken over a month ago, so there has been quite a bit of change since then. (more weeds!)  This first picture is the "established" garden with beds.  Last year I finally put asparagus in and a strawberry patch.  I try to fit a little of everything else in there since that is where most of my success has been.

Second picture is the far west side of what I call the field garden.  The string is where sunflowers have been planted.  If all goes well, grows well, they will form walls for a maze.  Beyond the maze are three hills with watermelon seeds and to the south (right side of picture) where you see milk jugs I have a pumpkin patch planted

Here is the same pumpkin patch in in background.  In front of that is a structure Tim put together and I've since planted pole beans, morning glory and moonflower seeds.  We'll see how tall they grow!

In the foreground is the corner of the corn patch - ruby queen corn.

Same teepee on left, same corn patch in foreground.  The hog panels on the ground have been put up now for a row of pole beans.  Beyond that is a row of broccoli plants.  Then a row of bush beans (waiting for those to sprout!) and beyond that a wide row with 20 tomato plants.  Next is a row I planted gladiolus bulbs and zinnia seeds, then space for another wide row to hold more tomatoes, cauliflower, and pepper plants. (all planted since this picture was taken)

And the last section (not that you can see it, but it's still fun to write about it!) is another corn patch with a white corn variety.

The only new part seen on this picture are the cantaloupe hills.  South of those is open space that I have filled in with seeds for cutting flowers.  Since these pictures were taken I also squeezed in some acorn, butternut, and green hubbard squash.
Updated pictures coming soon - once the plants gain some height over the grass and weeds!
