uh-oh...this could be a long trip. At least that was my thought when I snapped this picture of a cranky Conrad.
Are all four year olds this moody? But to be fair, he WAS awake at 4:30am that morning so we could get an early start. And he was so excited about the trip he didn't fall back asleep in the car as we had hoped he would.
Goal for the day: a little over 600 miles.
Strategy: make every stop count. I packed a jump rope, balls, a frisbee. When we stopped at a rest area we would eat AND move and play a lot.
For in the car, I packed some toys, an assortment of audio books and Conrad's current favorite CD's. This trip his favorite audio book in the selection turned out to be One Beastly Beast: Two Aliens, Three Inventors, Four Fantastic Tales by Garth Nix and Brian Biggs. His favorite CD's since this spring have been CatChat CD's.
One of our longer stops that first day was at Wall, SD so we could play in the 'backyard'. The kids loved it of course.
We got another early start the following morning and the day was largely uneventful. Both kids nap well in the car, and Norrie took at least three naps that day. We had hoped to make it to Missoula by dinner time, but when it became apparent we wouldn't quite make that goal, we sent a text to Tim's cousin and stopped at an Arby's for dinner.
We arrived in Missoula with enough time to introduce the kids, and enough daylight to burn off some energy.
