Day One - Chicago area

We drove all Friday afternoon, hit a bit of traffic near O'hare (as expected) and arrived to Brian's place in Lincoln Park area just before 8pm.  Kids did fairly well (as expected), this was a "short" drive compared our other road trips!

The next morning we were all up early (thanks Conrad - he's our early riser and not always so quiet about it).  On the plus side, it gave us more time to enjoy with Uncle Brian before going different directions.  We picked up breakfast at Cosi's and coffee at Starbucks, then walked to the zoo and enjoyed this beautiful setting. After eating, we still had time to explore the zoo.  Not all animals were up and ready for visitors yet but we saw enough that the kids seemed pleased with their visit.

In an effort to be more prepared this year for Christmas cards, I asked Brian to take a few family pictures :)  I was also motivated to take lots of pictures because I've been getting more time to scrapbook lately AND I have a new camera to play with!
little brother and me!

Mid-morning we dropped Brian off at the train station so he could join his family at the lake house and we headed towards the suburbs to meet up with Papa Ray at the hotel they were staying at.  Combining family events into one weekend seemed to confuse
Conrad some.  He asked more than once if Brian and Sarah were going to the family reunion (no honey, Brian is my brother.  The reunion is for daddy's side of the family).  Then upon arriving at the hotel which he knew papa Ray, gma Brenda, aunt Tammy and cousins Cali and Mason were staying at, he was shocked to find out aunt Tricia was there too!?!?!  In general he really does understand who is who and what relations are but in his little world everyone he knows should be at every party.

The rest of day then was spent enjoying a beautiful day poolside and visiting with Tim's extended family at his aunt's house near Tinley Park.  We stayed until past bedtime and then loaded up very sleepy children for another leg of our trip - this time into Indiana.  (see day 2!)
